The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, a large eat-in kitchen, living and dining room with fireplace, and a bonus great room with TV/DVD, fireplace, and a large table and chairs. For your outdoor enjoyment, there is a large deck, a relaxing bench swing, and a private gazebo down the path into the woods.

Astounding Colors!

Things to See

The fall colors are ready! Peaking in the first two weeks of October, the brilliant red, orange and gold leaves (set against a backdrop of evergreens) rival even the most striking fireworks displays. Majestic oaks, maples, and other hardwood trees line the roads and shores for miles in all directions. The natural beauty on view is a spectacle in itself, well worth the drive.

When you tire of Mother Nature’s flashiest annual exhibition, head into Egg Harbor or one of the other towns along either side of the peninsula. Browse the shops and get an eyeful of the seasonal decorations. Pumpkins and cornstalks abound, but you may also catch a glimpse of the ghost of one of Door County’s former residents.

Things to Hear

For relaxing, nothing beats the soft sighing of the wind in the trees, coupled with the lapping of the waves on the beach. Well, maybe the crackling of a fire and conversation with good friends. (We’ll come back to the fire later on.)

But what if you’re in the mood for some more stimulating sounds? There are plenty of clubs and restaurants that have live music on the weekends, so be sure to ask around for recommendations.

There’s a chill in the air, but it’s still refreshingly brisk, and not yet bitingly cold. Hiking or biking in one of the State Parks is a great way to enjoy the cooler weather of October, as is a liesurely stroll through the shops in town.

Of course, if there’s a fire waiting for you when you come in from the cold, feeling the heat warming your skin is one of life’s simple pleasures. (I told you we would be getting back to the fire.)

Things to Smell

Fall and harvest time bring with them a unique set of aroma, and hot spiced cider is one of the most recognizable. Several markets around the county serve fresh cider made from locally-grown apples!

And then there’s the uniquely Door County smell of wood smoke mixed with kerosene, the signature fragrance of the fish boil. Which brings us to:

Things to Taste

The Door County fish boil is a delightful mix of tastes, from the mild flavor of the Lake Michigan whitefish, to the earthiness of the potatoes and the tang of the onions. Of course, the only way to finish off this wonderful meal is with a slice of Door County cherry pie. Check with the local restaurants for times and locations for fish boils.
